FAQ

Questions and answers

What people ask before they start a league, answered from what the product does today.

Getting started

How do I set up a league?

Sign up with an email address and a password, name the league and choose its sport. Guided setup then takes you through five steps: the league, its teams, its players, the schedule, and sharing it. Lists of teams and players can be pasted straight from a spreadsheet, and you can leave at any step and come back.

A new league's pages are public from the start. In Settings you can make it unlisted, so only people with the link find it, or turn its pages off while you set it up.

Do my players need an account or an app?

No. A published league is read in a browser: standings, schedule, results, team pages and player pages, with no account and nothing to install. Send one link and everyone can see it.

Can I see a league before I sign up?

Yes. Browse public leagues lists every published league. The ones tagged Sample are made-up leagues that show how each sport's pages look with a season of results in them.

Sports and scoring

Which sports and games does it cover?

Bowling, trivia, softball, kickball, baseball, cornhole, volleyball, soccer, basketball, football, hockey and tennis. Each has its own page saying what's built for that kind of league and what isn't yet.

A league in any other sport or game can choose Other when it's created. It gets schedules, scores, standings and public pages, without the sport's own extras.

How are ties in the standings broken?

By a list of tiebreakers for your sport, in an order you can change. The standings mark each group of tied teams and say under the table which rule separated them.

Players and fans

How do players and fans keep up with a league?

Anyone can follow a published league by email: enter an address and confirm it from the email that arrives, with no account and no password. Followers get the schedule and results, including a reminder before each game, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

A calendar link puts the league's schedule in a phone or computer calendar, and it updates when a game moves.

Does it send text messages?

Not yet. Reminders and league messages go by email. Text messages are planned and aren't being sent today.

Plans and money

What happens if I downgrade or stop paying?

Paid plans aren't on sale yet, so today there's nothing to downgrade from. The rules for when there is are already built, and the first one is that nothing is deleted when a plan ends or changes.

If you cancel, you keep the paid plan until the end of the period you've paid for, then your leagues move to Free. If a payment fails, the card is tried again over the next 14 days and you keep everything during that time. We email you when it fails, with the date the 14 days end. If it still hasn't gone through by then, your leagues move to Free.

A league that's over a free limit, such as more than 8 teams, keeps everything it has; the limit only stops you adding more. If you own more leagues than your plan covers, you choose which ones stay active. The rest become read-only, and your members can still see every stat and every past season in them.

Do players pay anything?

No. LeagueBucket doesn't charge players, or anyone following a league, anything on any plan. A published league's pages are free to read without an account, and no stat, standing, schedule or result is held back from members.

If your league collects dues, that stays between you and your players. Collecting fees through LeagueBucket isn't built yet.

Are there ads?

No. There are no ads on any plan, Free included, and we don't sell your members' data. Both are in our Terms of Service, and if either ever changed, account holders would get an email at least 30 days before it took effect. The no-ads commitment has the details.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. Signing up takes an email address and a password, and there's no card field anywhere in it. The free plan isn't a trial and doesn't expire, so there's nothing to cancel.

Your data and getting help

Can I get my league's data out?

Yes, on every plan. An admin can download each list as a CSV file (the kind a spreadsheet opens) or the whole league as one JSON file, at any time, without asking anyone.

Can I run a youth league?

Not yet. LeagueBucket is for adult leagues for now, and every account belongs to an adult. The youth league waitlist is where to leave an email address to hear when that changes.

How do I get help?

Email support@leaguebucket.com. LeagueBucket is built by one person, and that's who answers. About LeagueBucket says more about who that is.
